Glass Circle

EchoesOfTarjani's Notes
I wrote this in my bedroom at two in the morning after realizing I had spent an entire year being someone's emergency contact while they couldn't even remember what city I was moving to. It’s not really a rage song—it’s more the sound of me finally locking the front door, turning off the porch light, and realizing the quiet house doesn't feel empty at all, just unburdened. "I'll always be there" then leaving the next day doesn't seem like "being there" to me. Turns out "forever" had a 48-hour return policy ㅠㅠ
(Verse 1)
You only called me when your sky was raining
To check if I had room under my umbrella
I listened to hours of you complaining
An endless monologue you loved to tell us
But when the sun came out, you faded fast
Left me standing in the aftermath
Funny how your memory starts to slip
The second that you don't need ownership
(Pre-Chorus)
Oh, it’s a beautiful performance that you put on
Clapping for my wins while wishing they were gone
I used to think that we were cast in stone
But I’m less lonely when I’m completely alone
(Chorus)
So here’s to your glass circle, perfectly clear
You only show up when a crowd is near
A master of the double-sided smile
Stabbing my back and acting surprised all the while
But the mirror finally cracked, the illusion is dead
I’m letting go of everything you said
Go find someone else to pretend with
'Cause this is where the credits roll and we end this
(Verse 2)
I noticed how you got quiet when I succeeded
A subtle roll of the eyes, a shifted glance
You only like me when I’m defeated
So you can play the hero, given the chance
You twist the narrative to make you look grand
A flawless savior in a shifting sand
But I’ve been mapping out the words you speak
And the loyalty you promise is incredibly weak
(Pre-Chorus)
Oh, it’s a beautiful performance that you put on
Clapping for my wins while wishing they were gone
I used to think that we were cast in stone
But I’m less lonely when I’m completely alone
(Chorus)
So here’s to your glass circle, perfectly clear
You only show up when a crowd is near
A master of the double-sided smile
Stabbing my back and acting surprised all the while
But the mirror finally cracked, the illusion is dead
I’m letting go of everything you said
Go find someone else to pretend with
'Cause this is where the credits roll and we end this
(Bridge)
No anger, no malice, just a clean break
I’m too tired to carry the weight of a fake
You can keep the rumors, you can keep the scene
I’m erasing the spaces where you used to be
Yeah, the silence is heavy, but it's finally real
(Chorus)
So goodbye to your glass circle, perfectly clear
I don't care if you're far, I don't care if you're near
Keep your masterclass in double-sided smiles
I’ve walked away and I’ve gone for miles
The mirror completely shattered, the illusion is dead
I’ve finally cleared your ghost out of my head
Go find someone else to pretend with
'Cause the credits just rolled
Yeah, we’re entirely finished.
(Outro)
Say hello to your new crowd
Hope they cheer for you loud
Before they see through it too.
Yeah, we're entirely finished.
