Lyrical Analysis of...
my dear, seraphine
- //intro (0:00 but like say it off beat) //
- [seraphine ](the name itself, seraphine, is derived from the seraphim, a rank of one of the most divine angels of god. pretty much an eye in the middle with six wings sprouting out of it, coated in eyes aswell. also monstrously large to the point of incomprehensibility. literally the first word uttered already hints at the theme of christianity.)
- seraphine
- seraphine
- seraphine
- seraphine
- seraphine
- sera
- //verse 1 (0:21) //
- [my dear seraphine, i saw you fall out of the sky ](lucifer fell from the sky too)
- [an angel in disguise, so undeniably fine ](angel in disguise is like a cliche term in romance to refer to someone {typically a girl, which seraphine is} being so beautiful and like best girl. here it plays double meaning, since seraphine was literally an angel before she fell. the fact she's disguised means she's hiding something.)
- i guess you were meant to fall further though
- //break until (0:31) //
- [cause where your halo glow? i don't see it anymore ](angels typically have halos, so the fact the narrator can't see it anymore juxtaposes the spirituality of angels to seraphine)
- [like a bomber set it to blow out of spite with a c4 ](the bomber could be likened to god and his army, or like archangel michael or something. the bar's creating an image of a c4 shattering seraphine's halo that she used to have as an angel)
- //extend and distort the 4 until the car thing ends //
- [black mamba with the vodka, let it go with the grief, or ](creating a bit of irony. black mamba is the nickname for kobe, who was a devout christian. creates irony because immediately mentions afterwards 'with the vodka'. devout christians don't drink. also, the first animal recorded that satan possessed was a snake.)
- [pope to hell, drama killin' me, i just wanna see you again ](more irony, the pope {a symbolhead of christianity} being sent to hell.)
- //break until (0:49) //
- [i thank the devil we ain't end off our own shit as friends ](you usually thank god for things, no? here the narrator thanks the devil blasphemous.)
- [sank a level so we blended together, romantic trend ](it's implying the narrator was more morally right before meeting seraphine, so he had to 'fall a level' or like become less morally right so he could align with seraphine. in the bible it states marriage unites the souls of both partners, so there's that.)
- [whatever happened to your past purity? who gives a fuck ](angels have purity, duh)
- [the pressure flattened your mind to just envy, greed and lust, trust ](her past purity is now just a bunch of sins, because she's a fallen angel. 'trust' is rather ironic, since the last thing he should be trusting is her, a literal fallen angel)
- //break until (1:05) //
- [you was supposed to stay in the sky and watch over me ](revealing seraphine was a watcher, a rank of angel mentioned in the book of enoch. they typically just watch over humanity. however, they then revolted against god and stole all human wives)
- [shit like a gender bend you stole me just to get close to me ](watcher angels in the book of enoch were shown as almost always male seraphine being female subverts that expectation, and genderbend is like anime fandom lingo to mean like flipped gender. the other part of the bar references like toxic relationships)
- [it strikes the embers, what's left of your past, hold your old beauty ](narrator's tryna get seraphine to revert to her past divinity and purity her angel form)
- [dressed up your gashes, i miss when you were a god like i was, um ](narrator's so prideful he thinks he's a god.)
- [shared the crown, the devil hath seeped through thy mind, it bleeds through ](he believed that him and seraphine shared the crown of ruling over the world, because pride. also kjv style phrasing, because bible reference lolz i was bored and thought i was slick by doing that)
- [he feeding thee evil, no peace dwelleth in thy cerebral ](the devil's infected and corrupted her mind to the point there's no moment of peace within her, just constant thoughts of evil)
- [yet still you try, you strive to find life while broken and bound ](she's bound by something god, perhaps. seraphine's still trying to find some humanity within herself)
- [trojans on ground, unwound so as to calm, shit's unspoken, aroused (hah) ](trojans, like a trojan horse program normal and peaceful on the surface yet venomous on the inside, just like seraphine. 'aroused' plays double entendre for both sexual arousement {lust a deadly sin} and like the arousing of fury)
- //interlude (1:26 in a whisper, still off beat) //
- seraphine
- sera
- //verse 2 (1:31) //
- my dear seraphine, tell me, was hell worth it?
- [tears tellin' me it ain't, and i agree, it ain't perfect ]('perfect' is an ironic reference to god's perfect plan for everyone, which hell is the farthest thing from his perfect plan)
- [far worse than we imagined, surely a misjudgment ](means seraphine convinced the narrator that hell is beautiful now they know it isn't)
- [said that we would love it but we don't, i'm reluctant ](seraphine saying that they'd love hell, now they realise they wouldn't enjoy it)
- [to believe in freedom past this, perhaps it's best to relax in ](the narrator now refuses to listen to seraphine and her words, since she's saying that there's freedom past hell. the last part suggests him surrendering to hell)
- [this pad, a pool of red absinthe, or even commit to fasting ](likening hell to a bad apartment, absinthe being a beer to get intoxicated in, and red referring to blood. blood's also in a sacrifice, tying into the other part of the bar sacrificing your inward wants for a pointless ritual {fasting} in the hopes that god would notice. it's too late.)
- [i ](words fail him)
- //interlude (1:47 2:16) //
- [*insert all the sounds here*](the distorted trombone kinda mirrors the trumpets that will sound when the rapture occurs, tying deeper into the christian imagery)
- //verse 3 (2:16 screaming in torment and agony, so i'll put all caps.) //
- //please do bear with me for this bit, i sincerely apologise to put you through shitty lyrics //
- [SERAPHINE, FUCK YOU, I PRAYED TO AND WORSHIPPED YOU ](i got lazy to annotate verse 3 ;;just know it's like violent and all that nonsense)
- NOW WE'RE STUCK HERE TOGETHER, TELL ME, NOW I WORSHIP WHO?
- SHIT, I SHOULD HAVE GONE SOLO THIS WHOLE TIME, YOU FUCKING WHORE
- IF I WAS GOD, I'D SCORCH HELL HOTTER THAN IT ALREADY IS AND SMITE YOU
- I'D RIP YOU LIMB BY LIMB BY WING UNTIL YOU DIE BECAUSE YOU LIED TO ME
- YOU KNOW HOW FUCKING PAINFUL THIS IS? SHIT LIKE AGONY
- I GUESS I WAS FOOLISH TO THINK WE'D ENGAGE IN MATRIMONY
- NOW, I GUESS HELL REMINDS ME THE NEED OF ALIMONY
- //outro (2:45) //
- //play this (https://youtu.be/jSpetILcnnI?t=10) to the end
- //yes i know that it makes things even more cringey but like it makes sense in the story
- //it's about finding solace in understanding between the dark and the light. dark in this case being hell, eternal separation from god. it's like a voice telling the narrator to find solace in his situation. it sounds so cringe help
