DEFENDER'S RAP

• An out of body experience
• An out of bed nightmare
• I wake up feeling beside myself
• The kindly old shadows next door try to help
• “I’m fine” I tell them
• With a stained stake through my cerebellum
• And a fallen tree, oldest one on the block
• In the attic where I’m dwelling

• I speak to demons in tongues
• That I don’t understand
• Who knows if I have the upper hand?
• If life is an illusion
• If it’s better to wake up
• If my understanding of reality itself
• Will ever bounce back like a rubber band
•  
• By the time this life is over
• I’ll have beat the shit up outta this ouija board
• With a blood soaked knife, big as my head
• Could very well be a sword
• I grip it tightly just to keep myself from feeling bored
• I look so peaceful in my sleep as I dream of war
• And constantly lust over mirages
• This compulsive need for more that cannot be ignored

• I wake up on a desert
• On a beach or shore
• The waves from the tides crash
• And convince my ass that I ain’t alone
• I feel weightless, cold
• All the fallen leaves are scorched
• Yet still evergreen, of course
•  
• A wave crashes and my brain flashes back
• To when that tree came down on all my vital organs
• Come to think of it, it’s strange
• I remember not knowing what to say after that
• Every dream is the same fucking day back to back
• But it seems to be just a dream
• But I just have to ask
