DEFENDER'S RAP

• For so many miles I ran without eyes past a million thousand lands
• Can’t find the time to hold the phone and so I sprint without a plan
• I suppose my only key to that perfect little house was jammed
• Reachin for the last of my trust, I shake a limp and doubtful hand
• Confided within a silent abyss I reminisce of my sacred hometown
• I would just walk at slower paces but I can’t crawl back home and face it, no way and no how
• I can’t fit inside the new architecture, my ears can’t tolerate how the radio sounds
• My heart beats like a drum so my feet will succumb, still I crumble under the weight of no crowd
• I still believe my heart can convince me I ain’t gettin older
• But I look back at 18 as if the wait’s nearly over
• This place is safer for sure but every blanket is colder
• And so I went for a run to lose the weight on my shoulder
