Growing Pains (of A New Age)

• Written by

Pagliacci's Notes

This track is a general response to what has been happening in 2020 and for many years around police brutality, economic inequality, and climate change.
Instrumental is 'Don't Die', by Killer Mike, produced by El-P.
Track image is a rendering of the 3rd precinct burning. I lived about a mile from where George Floyd was murdered and was witness to everything that happened here, the good and the bad. RIP George. Your legacy lives on.
The first vocal sample was from Killer Mike speaking about the riots in Atlanta in 2020. The second sample is from Angela Davis, 3rd is Greta Thunberg.

[Killer Mike Speaking to Atlanta During the 2020 Riots]
"We don't wanna see Targets burning. We want to see the system
that sets up for systemic racism burnt to the ground."

I don't have love for the police
The same way, I wouldn't have love for sharks teeth
If I were a fish, in the open with no reef
To hide behind, worried I'll die, it's so deep
Get no sleep, these wolves claiming that they sheep
Protectors of the peace, turned a riot to a feast
The air reeks, my city's got burned streets
symphony's played sickly, by sinners with rosy cheeks

The same preach, pops into your feed with newspeak
Claiming the only peace, will come through the release
Of the old beast, he's on the loose, its time he eats
He won't stop till the world burns at his feet
People in the phierophery, not in the mix
Are fooled again and again by parlor tricks
Its a carnival of fear, a circus of killer patriots
Promising law and order, just give them all of your anger fits

[Angela Davis Speaking to a reporter from prison in 1973]
The way this society is organized, because of the violence that exists on the
surface everywhere, you have to expect there are going to be such explosions.

They'll say that its broken, so they can come and fix it
After they eroded foundations, and crashed the picnic
gone past the limit, past facts into fiction
Past discourse, or a chance of coexistence
A storm’s coming, to erase, what we took for granted
better start building your castle, before it happens
Amass your wealth, go ahead, hide it and stash it
But good luck trying to cash it, once the market crashes

Limits on greenhouse gasses, blew past em
seas become acid, forests turn to ashes
Corruption of government in the Roman fashion
fall of democracies, and rise of fascists
The past is, the future, and the present is now
Suicide via overmilking the cash cow
They won’t back down, till there’s nothing left to take
If only they knew, that it's already too late

[Greta Thunberg Speaking to World Leaders about climate change in 2019]
We are in the beginning of a mass extinction, and all you can talk about is money
and fairytales of eternal economic growth. How dare you.

Mass migrations, and destabilization
Is coming soon, to your first world nation
See the monsoon, lingering on the horizon
What will it take, for you to hear me like Verizon?
I’d say we need to open our eyes, and start planning
I'm betting on, back to the land, so I'm planting
Learning practical skills, self sustainability
Growing local networks, practicing civility
Taking care of the land to ensure its fertility
Living for life, instead of for profitability
These are the seeds, that I hope to plant
But we’re running out of time, I see the smoke at last
Its going fast, and if I see you along the way
Peace and love, is what I can give today
Well underway, it's the dawn of a new age
Look around, these are the growing pains
