Thank You Dad

• Written by

I can’t remember looking into mommas eyes cause they were the first thing I saw
In fact at that point I couldn’t really remember anything at all
I don’t remember you holding me in your arms
You would let nothing put me in harms way
I would do the same for you cause I don’t play
You ever mess with my dad I’m gonna make you pay
I’ve heard people talk shit I hate to admit
There was one time somebody said they wanted a bullet through you
But you told me not to worry cause you can see through
All the talk and all the threats all the pain with no regrets
Always being the better man
Teaching me the best you can
Always saying it’ll be ok
Always telling me today is a new day
Wiping my tears away when I cry
You opened up my eyes
To the green grass and the blue skies
Forgetting the lows and living the highs
Seeing the good through all the bad
Your all I wanted and all I have
But what I’m really trying to say is thank you dad

Thank you dad
Thank you dad
Thank you dad
Thank you dad

Sometimes it’s not easy being the coaches son
You have to keep secrets from everyone
Doesn’t seem like a lot to handle
But people asked all the time
And my brain feels dismantled
Some one said that all you do is talk people down till there nervous
Well he sounds like a clown cause all you every do is encourage
I’ve seen it with my own eyes
your a leader that always tries
Your someone who hopes that the negativity always dies
I’ve studied your way
I do and say what you say
I’m a younger you and it’s never going away
I’ve tried to change but your always in range
I guess somethings will always stay the same
It’s the name of the game
Living without no shame
But your the best and I damn well know it
Might as well call this a poem because I sound like a poet

Thank you dad
Thank you dad
Thank you dad
Thank you dad

You always tell me how I can go so far
You and mom always said reach for the stars
I think know what I’m getting at
So thank you for always putting gas in my car
And I always loved the way you played the guitar
Or in my younger days when we went to the park
So thank you for always listening
Thank you for all you blessings
Thank you for never second guessing
Thank you for never making a mess of things
Thank you for always being there
Thank you for all the love and prayers
You may say this is not needed
But this all from Heart so I swear
You need to hear this
Cause I am fulfilling my empty promise
To say thank you for naming me Thomas
For all the harmless knowledge
The busting your back for me so I can go to college
I don’t acknowledge it enough
So I’m trying to do better
Consider this a lyrical letter to say thank you dad
