Snowy_403's Notes

This song is a verse from Shane Koyczan's poem to this day, I've tweaked it a little but it's mainly the same. I just felt like one part of his poem described me so I decided to turn it into a rap. I am a person who deals with depression, and I want people who also struggle with depression to see that no matter how hard things are you can get through it. Remember, the darkest nights lead to the brightest days

I am a broken branch
grafted onto a different family tree
adopted
but not because my parents opted
for a different destiny
I was three
when I became a mixed drink
of one part left alone
and two parts tragedy
I started therapy
in 8th grade
I have a personality made up of pills
I live like the uphills are mountains
and the downhills are cliffs
four fifths of which are suicidal
a tidal wave of anti-depressants
and an adolescence
of being called popper
one part because the pills
and ninety nine parts because of the cruelty
when the people I call my mom and dad
had the audacity to tell me
“get over it” as if depression
is something that can be remedied
I tried to kill myself
I was only in grade ten
I was laying there staring death in the face
I believed that the blade was my only friend
only then did I realize I could change my fate
but even though I've changed
to this day I remain the same
I am a stick on TNT lit from both ends
I could describe to you in detail
the way the sky bends
in the moments before it’s about to fall
and despite an army of friends
who all call me an inspiration
I remain a conversation
piece between people who can’t understand
sometimes becoming drug free
has less to do with addiction
and more to do with sanity
