Philosophy of an Addict

• Written by

Tell me...
in what way are we free?
Here we are, with our mind's philosophy
But we forget, in the over exuberance of our minds
How complex we can think, debate and rationalize
That we are slaves, subject to one king's demand
And it's so close, because we are ruled by the hand

Because that's all it takes, just an inch away from our fingertips
How could this happen to man, a god amongst animal instincts
A being so gifted that it posses to write poetry and lyrics
Yet just wait and see the new upcoming statistics

You'll be shocked and amazed, dumbstruck and founded
How could this happen, to the being specially created
Yet you see what happens when we're given just a lick
Then it's a taste with a bite then it's all downhill

Do I just let me be, for I am mortal, don't forget
For this is primal, a need, resulting from regret
Or is it unrest?

I'm broken, I'm a wretch
Stick me in the machine and we'll lose the leg
I can't take you somewhere new because I love where I am
Vagabond is gone and left
This quicksand is the beach
And I'm loving the ocean on the bottom of my feet

I don't have a drinking problem, it's that everyone else has a problem with my drinking.
I'm an addict, that's how addiction works
You're hooked like a fish on the pacific
And you can't get out because you're sick
And sadistic, and the ocean doesn't want you
Cast you out because what are you doing fucking with hooks?

Yet still stuck on the same damned path as the mice in the maze
Looking for the cheese that was promised, but is it even there in the first place
But we don't really care, we say it's the journey
An experimentation of degradation and destruction of the construction of our minds
Where we fail to reach the upper limits and we settle for the consolation prize

I'll go to extremes because you go big or go home
Go strong or go gone
