Proud Father

• Written by

The teacher looked over her class one day
There was a little boy who never went out to play
She went over to the boy and asked him are you okay
He didn't answer her he just looked away

The boy gets home late in the afternoon
He goes into his room because that's his cocoon
A tear down his cheek and his legs feel weak
Cos he hasn't seen his dad in a goddamned week
When will Dad be home, Mum? I don't know
He wasn't there to see his little boy grow
When he was a baby the dad was always away
He wasn't ever there to read him books or play
Now the boy says that he don't need a dad
He knows it's a lie but it's all he ever had
The truth cuts through his heart feels like glass
That's why he's sitting all alone in the class

As a kid he had no-one to play football with
Cos his father was away and he didn't give a shit
As he grew up he got more confused
And through this confusion what he deduced was
that he wasn't shit and he wasn't worth a dime
That's why his father won't give him his time
A boy without a father now you know that's a crime
That's why I'm going overtime on this fuckin' rhyme

The teacher looked over her class one day
There was a little girl who never went out to play
She went over to the girl and asked her are you okay
She didn't answer her she just looked away

When she was young nobody treated her right
Nobody to tell her what's wrong and what is right
To teach her not to fight and how to be polite
And all she does today is provocative in spite
Nobody to tell her she was a princess
To say you're my girl and to treat her like an empress
Nobody there to show her the way
Nobody to tell her it doesn't matter how much she weighs
Nobody to hold her tell her everything's okay
there was Nobody to treat her take her on a holiday
are some people cursed to a fucked up life
the pie is there but not everyone gets a slice
is it fate or does god just roll the dice
now is it any wonder that she sits alone and cries

A man drove through the streets 3 oclock at night
his pockets were full and his pants were tight
Decided he wanted some company that night
So he sniffed some white and he parked his ride
A girl got in she was looking really nice
And the man knew her services carried a price
Next thing you know things got out of hand
The girl received a backhand and tried to make a stand
Policeman discovered them on the next day
on a bright summer morning early in the month of may
the man was slouched forward bleeding on the wheel
and the poor policeman didn't know what to feel
A woman by his side with a bullet in her head
No blood left in her it all been bled
They made quite a pair sitting in the red seats
An overdosed fucker and a hoe from the streets
These were the kids that nobody cared about
And the way they ended up makes me want to shout
They both fucked up but what we don't know
is that without a father how can our kids grow
