Gentrification

Venting frustration about growing up in a poor, working-class section of New Orleans, then coming back and seeing that middle class hipsters have taken over and gentrified the entire neighborhood.

VERSE 1:
What happened to the land, rent just keeps raising,
kicked out by middle class communities, gentrification,
I grew up as a teenager in New Orleans, word is bond,
I thought I'd come back and kick with niggas and turn it on,
Algiers cutoff section was poor, but Mama's pay was good,
I thought I'd come back and blend in with the neighborhood,
but here we show, there it goes, I remember gas stations,
now politicians love the area, they make fat statements,
and look at that shit now, the 'hood is all in a bunch,
kicked out 'cuz the rent is nine-hundred dollars a month,
the middle class sees it as where worthless trash roams,
I remember shotguns and modest working class homes,
but whatever, now that's gone but the wind ain't there,
to carry 'em softly, not any of my friends stayed there,
that shit they talk about, keep sayin' the area's rough,
but they don't realize that they're the ones tearing it up

HOOK (X4)
Homicide on 'em, BLAOW! What's the problem?

VERSE 2:
I remember all the block parties, music, and the robberies,
but now that's forced to bow down to capitalist policies,
pseudo-intellectuals, instead of that fashioned poverty,
hipster revolutionaries sittin' with coffee, equality,
you see my family wasn't poor, we had enough to live,
but we didn't do the crimes that these motherfuckers did,
the CIA introduced the cocaine, it was crooked rough,
the dealers made that shit into crack and they cooked it up,
and when you live in the ghetto, it could fall down tomorrow,
what's left except drinkin', doin' drugs to drown your sorrow,
that's why I already stated that's the scripture of the Devil,
those police have racial bias, they put liquor in the ghetto,
see it's hard to even raise yourself on minimum wage,
and when you're Black or Latin know they administer Aids,
the cops lock up blacks for no reason, they live in a cage,
that's hard to get up and to make it when life's pissin' away,
and biased unrelatable quizzes assist in the grades,
and now they're stereotypes against you and ignorant ways,
and then to top it off the government's givin' you Section 8,
and it's hard to pay, even with food stamps and Medicaid,
so you can steal to feed yourself and be locked in prison cells,
end up workin' at McDonalds, on welfare and give 'em hell,
then become a fuckin' addict, wait 'till those days cloud,
and we'll look back at that past and see there's no way out

Homicide on 'em, BLAOW! What's the problem?
