Same Song

{Verse}
'99, that B-side, see me in Aberdeen,
Where the rain falls heavy and the streets ain't always clean.
People die and bullets fly, my people heavy there,
Grew up knowing danger, learned to breathe that fucking air.
Superman taught me we all born crooks,
Everybody playing heroes till you take a closer look.
Everyone else is just shook, so I stay blazing,
Industry full of fakes, got these motherfuckers shaking.
Bringing redemption like my name is Christ,
Had to walk through hell just to understand the price.
They see the man I am, never saw the kid I was,
Never knew the shit I lived through or the things I had to overcome.
From the cold streets of Aberdeen to the microphone,
Had to learn to fight my battles when I stood alone.
I ain't claiming I'm a savior, ain't pretending I'm divine,
Just a soldier telling stories from the front lines of my life

{Hook}
You ain't walking with God, I promise your soul gets took,
Everybody claims they're righteous till you take a closer look.
I'm just writing like my life is the melody,
Turning all these painful memories into my legacy.
I done walked through hell, still got heaven on my mind,
Had to learn to see the truth when everybody else was blind.
They can judge me by my scars, they don't know what it took,
God bless the child who survived when everybody else just looked.

{Verse}
This be the realest shit I ever wrote,
Listen when I take you back, let me tell you what I know.
About all my homies doing life inside the pen,
Some I knew since we were kids, probably never see again.
Since I was a youngin', I was applying pressure from the sidelines,
Never gave a damn about the world trying to take mine.
Had to grow up fast, watching everybody pick a side,
Learned to read a motherfucker by the look inside his eyes.
Seen the good turn bad, seen the bad become the worst,
Seen a mother lose her son, watched another ride in a hearse.
Everybody screaming loyalty until the pressure gets applied,
Then the same ones calling brother are the first ones switching sides.
I ain't glorifying shit, I'm just telling what I know,
How a child becomes a soldier when he's got nowhere to go.
All these years later, still remember every face,
Some are buried in the ground, others locked away in cages.

{BRIDGE}
This rhyming shit ain't working,
It's back to the block,
Adding baking soda, making them rocks.
Same old corners, same ticking clocks.
I tried to leave that life, but the past won't stop,
Every time I climb, feels like I'm destined to drop.
They see the money, never see what it cost,
Another fucking soldier trying not to get lost

{Hook}
