Emotions
• Written by ChillDudeAj
Yeah, I grew up in the silence, no voice in my ear,
Dad was just a shadow that was never really near.
Every call was missed, every seat was bare,
At games, at my life — he was never there.
People thought I had it easy, like I lived a perfect script,
But they never saw my mind when the thoughts would flip.
Anger turned to chaos, chaos turned to rage,
I was writing my emotions on an empty page.
Nobody understood, man, I felt so strange,
Thoughts in my head that I couldn’t rearrange.
Yeah, I’d laugh with the crowd but be breaking inside,
Wrestling my demons with nowhere to hide.
Football was my refuge, that field was my cure,
Only place I felt steady, only time I felt sure.
Every hit was therapy, every play was a fight,
Blocking out the voices that kept me up at night.
Nobody understood the storm in my brain,
The mask on my face hid the weight and the pain.
Dad wasn’t there, just a ghost in the stands,
So I fought for my peace with a ball in my hands.
Mom’s face still flickers when I look to the sky,
Her voice is in my chest when I question why.
But it’s Dad that’s the echo in the empty seats,
And the silence gets louder every time we meet.
I went crazy at times, yeah, my thoughts ran wild,
Still felt like a burden when I was just a child.
People saw the athlete, thought the boy was strong,
But they never heard the verses I’d been writing all along.
It’s like every single down was a war in disguise,
Every yard was a battle just to quiet my mind.
If you didn’t see the pain, then you never looked deep,
I was playing through my trauma while they thought it was just a game to keep.
Nobody understood the storm in my brain,
The mask on my face hid the weight and the pain.
Dad wasn’t there, just a ghost in the stands,
So I fought for my peace with a ball in my hands.
Now I look at the field like the place that saved me,
Every broken thought, yeah, the game reframed me.
Still got scars in my head, but I’m stronger each day,
Turned the silence and the anger into words I can say.
Dad might never know the man I became,
He missed all the moments, but I rose from the flame.
And Mom, I know you see me from the place you rest,
Your boy fought the battle and gave it his best.
Life was chaos, pain, and missing calls,
But I learned to break free when my back hit the walls.
Nobody understood, but that’s okay,
I found my own peace in the game I play.
