Cigarettes

Kalligraphy's Notes
My mom smoked cigs for a while
But she quit for us, my family.
Dedication & reflection in this song.
I’m tryna figure out this mind boggling game
How breathing is neutralized by numbing pain
I'm always disappointing God, troubles with His law
Would she have done better or the same?
If I would ever try cigarettes?
If I would ever try cigarettes?
Cigs
Momma came home from another day of work
Told me go into her car and to go and get her purse
And I grabbed in walked and brought it to her
But all that hit me in their was…cigarettes
Didn’t see the money, only saw all the smokes
She told me “don’t tell your brothers bout the cigarettes”
But years go on by and the secret slips away
Out on the front porch, holding sticks to numb the pain
And it’s accessible not like novacane
At least momma ain’t on the cocaine
But we went to the store and stepped into the store
Momma pulled out the cash and then she grabbed more
Told the clerk to search for more cigarettes
I’m tryna figure out this mind boggling game
How breathing is neutralized by numbing pain
Im always disappointing God, troubles with His law
Would she have done better or the same?
If I would ever try cigarettes?
If I would ever try cigarettes?
Cigs
(Interlude)
So my momma, she saw how smoking affected us
(In her lungs)
So the logical thing was to give it up
(Messed them up)
And that’s exactly what my mother did
(Had no high hopes)
She took time out of her hard working days to not
smoke
(But she gave me high hopes)
Put away her cigarettes, because she didn’t want to paint herself a bad image
Or be an influence into cancer
Let’s talk about the adoration for my ma
Been through so much, I’ll never see her thoughts
Immigrant, an anti-rebel with the law
She cared for us, she deeply loved me
More than cigarettes
My momma chose us, me and my brothers
Over cigarettes
Cigarettes, uh
I’m proud to say I’m an addict who inherited your pain
I’m just doing addiction in rhyme form, I ain’t playin
