pride

pride is a virtue, pride is my downfall

which is which i don't even know

when things got hard my best friend told me "Daniel just go with the flow"

that was the same day that he got shanked in his ribs by a boy that he knows

i saw the bally slip down mans face then everything except him froze

i asked him why would you do this, he told me god would know

i tried to stop the bleeding and save my bro

but it was too late and he said that he had to go

the day that he died some of me died with him

i promised myself to get rid of this fear

as i looked at his coffin i said i won't shed a tear

 

i still wear his chain around my neck every day

to remind of the time when i used to hesitate

to remind me of what happens when you try to tempt fate

i used to sit in my room to see how much anger my hate for could knives generate

i don't have time for dates i got too much on my plate

i've got a short temper so its hard to regulate

when your boy's buried in a grave, a memory that fades

i used to say if there's a god then he's a cruel one

five years after i was born i lost my mum

two years after that i lost everyone

 

if j.cole says pride is a devil then maybe i'm one too

but its better than seeing your best friend beat black and blue

a future without murder that's the goal that i pursue

so i know better than anyone that pride is a virtue

i used to say that about patience but that changed when my mum died

once iv'e got a goal its impossible to change my mind

you can say im hasty but is revenge really a crime?

i've suffered through grief in the past ten years

more times than anyone will in a lifetime

i still see the demons that's why i hate nighttime

i just wanna live good life but i guess i'm toeing on a fine line

i keep thinking this is all a dream and waiting for the punchline
