Spoken Word: The Streets

Avii's Notes

The end beat

Walking down the street
I hold my breath cuz it wreaks
I don't ever take a peak
Another person takes a leak
Drunk, numb, deceived
Pumped with an absent mind
As he shrivels and dies
Another soul is deprived
All of these streets are decaying
As fast as they were made
Got our souls decimating
Leaving us there to fade
Just like my sisters and cousins
I must've met a couple hundred
Won't see em again
Cuz the streets take them in
They all lie there
Same look on they face
Parents filled with disgrace
Another person to hate
One more bullet whizzing through
One more body to scoop
Off the ground
I gotta get out but I don't know how
This is madness in head
I try to go back to bed
Too many screams
Too many tears
Got they voices impaired
This is life
They except it
But I don't turn from my brethren
So I gave him a dollar
But he spent it on drugs
Overdosed to escape
The world he's been on
Damn
These streets

I get up and shake it off
But I begin to cough
All the smoke in the air
Everybody's unaware
But I don't want to give in
Won't get sucked in
Imma keep moving forward
Even if I'm outnumbered
Cuz my future is in sight
Never seen it so bright
We gon be alright
Just follow the light
One foot at a time
With every word I rhyme
My soul redefines
I don't survive I thrive
When you put my aside
Don't think imma hide
Your not worth my time
Called me an outcast?
Alright
I don't mind
I want to be different
Don't want to fit in
If the result's dying at 20
And already having kids
Letting drugs control your life
Because you gave up the fight
Look
I don't want to rain on your parade
But our ancestors fought too hard to not be slaves
I'm not gon waste their sacrifice
It's about time you realize it
Y'all tarnishing our name
Shooting niggas for Jays
Even though you could've got a job and got paid
Now you've been marked as a murder
Your fate has been sealed
All over some fad that'll disappear in couple years
You jeopardized your future
And ended some body else's
Every one's getting used to it
Some even predicted it
They don't even put us on the news no more
They just become a statistic
There's no hope for the future cuz everyone's pessimistic
We were free for a while
But now we're back in a cage
Everyone's looking in
Waiting to be amazed
But as time moves on, fewer people flee
All the people watching are beginning to leave
Laughing as they walk cuz they know something we don't
The cage guess what doesn't have a lock
We can leave out when we want
But we're too scared to look
So we're trapped in a prison we made
Waiting for a bail that won't get paid
Damn
These streets
