The Light Die
- Out on a skywatch with my professor, scanning the night sky,
- Asked him if he ever gets bored of watching the light die.
- He just shook his head "no", and I couldn't understand it,
- Thought it's just the same stars scattered all across the planet.
- We get blinded by routine, forget to look at the beauty,
- Treat the universe around us like a miserable duty.
- But today I looked above and saw the waxing crescent,
- And it hit me like a wave, something quiet and pleasant.
- It shows up every night, but it never gets boring,
- It's a masterpiece above that we just end up ignoring.
- And it made me think of you, and your literal existence,
- How you effortlessly bypass my mental resistance.
- You don't gotta say a word to try and make my day right,
- Just knowing that you're breathing is enough to bring the daylight.
- Like the moon up in the dark, you don't gotta take action,
- Just your presence in this world is the ultimate attraction.
- But even the moon in the dark is pulling a high tide,
- I know that a peaceful existence implies there's a dark side.
- You cannot optimize people, there's zero equations,
- We're all unpredictable forces on every occasion.
- As a kid I wanted drums, but the kit was too pricey,
- Got an electric guitar, but the rhythm is dicey.
- I wanted to shred the themes, but I'd rather hit basslines,
- Just sitting back in the groove, avoiding the stage shines.
- If I get an alternate life, I'm dropping the six strings,
- I'll be a bassist instead, and watch what the mix brings.
- I read all the FBI books, the mental profilers,
- Sapolsky’s Behave, and Kahneman’s logic compilers.
- I know Thinking, Fast and Slow, I get the biology,
- But I don't wanna look at my friends through psychology.
- I'd rather just turn it off, put away the analysis,
- Stop freezing my brain in emotional paralysis.
- I just wanna ride the highs, and smile through the low downs,
- Without analyzing a thing, just enjoying the slow downs.
