Lyrical Analysis of...
Pop!
- //verse 1 0:10
- I grew up in the city of El Monte, where every day I’d see a dead body
- Soon the temptation got me, but I learned hanging with those “bros” would cost me
- I was eighteen, with the same dream, and started to steal green
- One day I walked into the pool hall acting tough and mean, sipping lean
- Had my forty five on my side so I wouldn’t be [kar bambaw kaun daoy mteay](the person who inspired this is combodian so I added a lil Khmer in it bc that’s the language Cambodians speak.) dead
- I walked in and felt an ounce of dread, because I was in a war with the south and the west

- //verse 2 0:31
- Mama worked all night, to try to treat me right, and try to get me outta fights
- When I helped her pay the bills she cried, cuz’ she knew it was blood money
- She didn’t love the crimes, didn’t love the guys, like she didn’t recognize
- I got fast money, stole lunch money, met another kid from some other country, his name was Jeffrey
- He joined the gang
- We started hanging out, without being the with the gang, [we didn’t plan to bang](shoot and kill people)
- We didn’t want to shoot, we didn’t want to be in the group
- But they found us and kept me in, but kicked him out because of our deadly sin
- //break
- //verse 3 1:04
- When I walked inside of the hall, full of pride, hiding behind a wall, with a mask so I thought I stood tall
- Started to stall, started to recall, I cried, thought about my mamas eyes
- I knew she knew what I was doing, but she had no was stopping, just losing
- She didn’t want me shooting, [but I started looting and abusing](he robbed people and beat the crap out of them), it was confusing
- But then, the door opened, for a short moment it was quiet, I didn’t think it was an opponent
- They came to me with ski masks, kicked me down, hit me with their knees and, and knocked my head quickly down
- They punched me in the face, in the one place, in my nose so the blood would race
- Broke my nose, broke my soul, stabbed me in the leg with a piece of glass from the window
- I was laying down, broken, until the man in the middle had spoken
- I recognized his voice immediately, I took my mask off quickly
- He stood there, shook, he couldn’t go back cuz he if he did, he life would be took
- It was Jeffrey, and the last thing I heard was “I’m sorry”, then a pop! then it all went black and static.
