DEFENDER'S RAP

• I was just a little kid still in elementary
• Tears running down my face, at the cemetery
• Father locked up in prison most of my childhood
• He was always concerned that his child would
• Grow up fatherless cause his father messed up
• I was just four when the police had him pressed up
• against the wall with his hands cuffed behind his back
• I watched out the window as he got taken away in a car of white and black
• He was sentenced to life in prison but left early cause he was ill
• My mother saved up money so we could fly from Brazil
• I walked into his hospital room to see a woman by his side
• I spent a couple of hours in the room until my father died
• I know it's been a while but I loved him all my life
• He missed all my birthdays, what I have is his old knife
• I never felt depression before, it was a big surprise
• I watched him aimlessly as they closed his lifeless eyes
