DEFENDER'S RAP

• Sometimes I gotta get away - haven't wrote in a minute,
• I been dealing with the stresses of life that go with it, I've been -
• just going with the motions;
• been zoning in & out of reality with the potent.
• Lost my job, now I'm sitting on my ones with a pittance of the profit I was given;
• this isn't how it's meant to be, allegedly my efforts in work were my own enemy.

• So I tried to send a message;
• it sent, it isn't pending, you just opened it & read it.
• I thought that you would get it,
• you've been known to do some venting, I just thought that you'd accept it
• when I call on you for friendship.
• Guess blood isn't as thick as it seems,
• guess my family were figments that were living in dreams.
• Facing tragedy I have to be the comfort to myself,
• because nobody wants to talk when I'm the one who's wanting help.

• So now I'm smoking with the shallowest breath;
• seemingly floating through the valley of the shadow of death.
• Still hoping my finale's not a cancerous mess
• as I see the ghost of my Granny inside the back of my head.
• Work ethic from my Mother, fuck a benefit slum;
• if there's a job that's getting income I'm getting it done.
• When breaking bread with my Brothers, I would settle for crumbs
• sacrifice a lavish life to live dishevelled in slums.
• If you're not a day one then you ain't getting a crumb,
• cos when they think that they can gain from you, the messages come.
• That's why I don't respond to anyone except maybe one,
• and if that one doesn't want to I'll be left on my ones.
