CHALLENGER'S RAP
- You wake up, the suns shining
- Our bodies entwined, smeared mascara lines on your face from crying
- Last night after we finished fighting
- I tell you I'm sorry, that it won't happen again, but we both know I'm lying
- How is it we live even though both of us are dying?
- No matter how bad it gets, we just keep on trying
- Through all the hurt and the pain, all the arguments and sighing
- Through all the times that I've hit you, but baby who's counting
- Might have been six, might have been sixty, but they aren't worth recounting
- Baby we're stuck in this pit, it's like we're both drowning
- I see myself in the mirror and ask who the fuck I'm watching
- It's a different man that I'm seeing
- This man looks normal, when he gets mad I bet he don't start hitting
- Maybe I should be more like him, and then I'll start living
- I never mean to take out my frustration on you, you fucking think I'm kidding?
- God damn it baby I'm sorry, can't you see I'm trying
- To make amends, it's like a fucking cliff I'm climbing
- I get right beneath the top and then I'm falling
- Back down to the dirt, where I find myself always belonging
- I get so close to recovery and then I'm right back to hurting
- You and myself, but I could give two shits less about my own struggling
- I just want to love you and cherish you without fucking harming
DEFENDER'S RAP
- Abuse doesn't always just leave one victim
- A system of forced submission causing fucked up mental conditions
- As a kid I was in a situation where my mum was often picked on
- The way my father would beat her and treat her gave me something to live for
- My father would rather cause pain than love
- For me that was something I aspired to never become
- At night it leaves me wondering what's wrong to the Lord above
- Because some nights I see him in things that I've done
- I witnessed him punch her, hit her, black eyes beyond recognition
- He never realised that for me it would lead to forms of addiction
- He caused pain in my life and for that I'll never forgive him
- And to this day what happened made me lose faith in the system
- Because what system would allow a fuckhead to get away with that
- The fat cats don't give a crap when it comes to giving pain in slaps
- It's something I can't stand to see in myself, it's hell
- The times that I relive it, from how I talk to girls to playing AFL
- It's something I deal with in day to day life
- I'm just glad that I don't have to see him today, right?
- So when people question me about him and ask if I'm all right
- I just tell them that it's in the past, it's all fine
